DefiniGEN were founded in 2013 as a spin-out from Cambridge University, we use a patented differentiation process in combination with in-house gene editing  to differentiate human iPSC to hepatocyte-like cells which are then used to support our client’s work in developing next generation liver therapeutics. Typically we generate models of liver disease using our technology and screen client therapeutics for activity using our in-house phenotyping capability. 

About you:

This is a laboratory-based position to work in one of our project teams. You will be in charge to organise and deliver key client projects and report progress to the Team Leader. You will also contribute to DefiniGEN’s innovation projects supervised by a Senior Scientist. The work typically consists of a combination of the following (depending on the project): generating gene-edited iPSC lines, differentiating them into hepatocyte-like cells, treating cells with specific reagents, conducting and analysing cell-based assays as well as generating reports. You will also have some notions of troubleshooting and simple experiment design. It would be suitable for someone with at least three years of laboratory experience in the stem cell biology field (preferably in the industry). Full training provided.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Organise the run of client projects and report progress to the Team Leader.
  • Liaise with other teams and third-parties to ensure the smooth run of the projects.
  • Conduct of gene editing, differentiation and assay protocols.
  • Record data timely and accurately into DefiniGEN’s record systems.
  • Generate project reports.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and process improvement.
  • Carry out general laboratory housekeeping and cleaning duties.

Requirements:

  • MSc. Degree in Life Sciences or equivalent with understanding of stem cell technology and substantial laboratory experience (E).
  • Substantial experience of iPSC culture and differentiation (E).
  • Experience of gene editing using CRISPR-Cas9 (D).
  • Experience of running cell-based assays (D).
  • Capable of working to a schedule and delivery of a variety of challenging projects at a time within agreed deadlines (E).
  • Excellent attention to details (E).
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently when required (E).
  • Excellent communication skills (E).

Notes:

  • Weekend work will be required. This is currently carried out using a rota system.
