The School of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham is pleased to announce the call for the 2022/23 “Metallurgy and Materials International Excellence Doctoral Studentship” scheme.

This UKRI funded doctoral studentship is aimed at international students wishing to undertake a PhD in the School of Metallurgy and Materials, and fully covers both an annual stipend (in line with UKRI guidelines), and the tuition fees for the duration of their studies (3.5 years). The successful applicants will be expected to start their PhD by the beginning of 2023.

The School of Metallurgy and Materials welcomes students from all nationalities to apply for this exciting opportunity to conduct research at a top institution. Ranked in the Top 10 for Engineering research in the UK for GPA and 4* research (REF 2021), the School of Metallurgy & Materials offers an exciting research environment. In order to apply, the applicant must submit the following information to the PGR Admissions Team at gurrutbz@bham.ac.uk by the 18th September 2022:

  1. cover letter,
  2. a CV detailing grades, academic achievements, and the name and contact details of two academics willing to provide an academic reference,
  3. an academic transcript of all previous degrees (translated into English),
  4. a brief research statement (max 300 words) outlining the proposed research topic and identifying potential supervisors within the School (please refer to https://tinyurl.com/MetMatUoBStaff for a list of academic staff).

Research statements longer than 300 words will not be considered. No applications will be considered after the 18th September 2022. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an academic interview; all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application shortly after. Owing to the volume of applications, the panel will not be able to provide any feedback.
