This post offers the opportunity to be involved in the day to day running of our aquatics facility Institute of Medical Sciences Aquatic Resource Unit IMSARU within the Institute of Medical Sciences. Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Technician to join our team at IMSARU and have a crucial input in reaching our goals. The duties will include carrying out basic animal husbandry, record keeping and general facility duties (such as cleaning tanks, daily checking of tank conditions, feeding, measuring important environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and water conditions, recording of information, communicating any issues with facility manager, ensuring stock is maintained /requisitioning of consumables and manual handling). Being the primary technician responsible for carrying out weekend checks and public holidays and feeding of aquatics will be an essential role of the job and will generally take a maximum of 2 hours per day. It is envisaged that, for the majority of the time, both Saturdays and Sundays will be worked and two consecutive days during the week would be none- working days. You should have a good basic understanding of IT systems and excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and be highly motivated and able to work within a team. A keen interest in animal care and welfare is essential.
The ideal candidate will have some basic knowledge in biomedical science, biology or similar. Full training will be provided but it would be expected that the successful applicant will have an existing interest in aquatic husbandry and welfare.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 3, £20,092 - £22,847 per annum pro rata and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
