The City of Derby and University of Derby are exceptional places to live and work. Our location, investments, and vision for the future mean that we offer both rewarding career opportunities and a great place to live.
We have some of the best university facilities in the UK, investing more than £200 million in the last 10 years and our combined higher and further education offering is spread over campuses in Derby, Buxton, Leek and Chesterfield. More than 34,000 people choose to study with us every year and we employ a diverse team of some 2,200 academics and professionals.
We have now identified further opportunities in Computer Science and are investing in new roles at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.
These roles sit within the Computing and Mathematics discipline where we all share a vision to deliver an outstanding learning experience to our students, expand our research capacity and increase our substantial industry engagement in the region.
Computing and Mathematics are located in the Universitys’ dedicated STEM building in Markeaton Street, Derby. Key investments here in the last few years include dedicated data science facilities, a data visualisation ‘data cave’ and a VR lab as well as mobile VR equipment for teaching and research. We are engaged in a wide range of knowledge exchange projects and have an active applied research agenda.
These additional roles will increase our teaching capacity across the subject and our research capacity in the areas of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data Sciences, Computer Games and Internet of Things.
This recruitment drive is focused on both fully experienced candidates and those earlier in their career seeking rapid development.
Depending on the level of appointment (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) you will be expected to build on your potential/evidenced ability to acquire external funding, engage with industry and create high quality publications of international standing. You will also be required to contribute to teaching in the discipline area in general as well as to areas related to your subject specialisms.
Through this you will contribute to the University of Derby’s reputation and REF achievements.
Further information can be provided on request while informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Alistair McEwan, Head of Discipline of Computing and Mathematics on: A.McEwan@derby.ac.uk.
