We seek to appoint a Research Assistant to work on two ongoing epidemiological studies (EMBRACE and EMBED), within the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology, funded by Cancer Research UK.
The research projects aim to identify early detection markers of breast and ovarian cancer and determinants of therapeutic response and survival among individuals diagnosed with these cancers. The work will include the collection and processing of tumour blocks and pathology reports for women at elevated cancer risk.
This post is based in the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology, which forms part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. The Centre carries out research into inherited susceptibility to common cancers and conducts large-scale analyses both within the Centre and as part of ongoing national and international collaborations.
Applicants should be qualified to degree level and have relevant experience in a biology or medical field, possibly having worked in a health related research study. Previous experience of histology, particularly working with tumour material, would be a strong advantage. Experience of working proficiently in Access and Excel are also required. The post-holder will work within a multidisciplinary team environment and should be able to communicate well with pathology and other hospital departments and to present data to the wider team.
The position can be full time or part time (min 80% FTE).
Funds are available for this post until 30 September 2024 in the first instance.
Location: Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN (approx 2 miles south of city centre).
