Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship in Composite Materials at the University of Warwick. The project will focus on innovative high-volume manufacturing technologies for hybrid thermoplastic composite structures based on both continuous- and discontinuous fibre composites that display an optimal balance in processability and mechanical properties. The project will address aspects related to process instrumentation, optimization and modelling, property prediction, and composite recycling as well as fundamental aspects of such as interface formation and the development of novel monitoring and tooling technologies.
The student will work within the ENLIGHTEN - Enabling Integrated Lightweight Structures In High Volumes – project which is funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). ENLIGHTEN includes all three technical universities in the Netherlands (University of Twente, Delft University of Technology and Eindhoven University of Technology) as well as companies throughout the automotive and aerospace supply chains. As a result, you will work with leading academics on an industrially-relevant research project, alongside WMG’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centre and a network of industrial partners, offering excellent career opportunities following graduation.
This is an exciting opportunity for talented individuals with a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, such as engineering, material science or physics. Applicants should be self-motivated and capable of working independently. They should also have good communication skills for regular interaction with other stakeholders.
