Research Assistant (f/m/d) in science in the field of urban research

Job description

  • You will develop socially and politically relevant urban research, which contributes to the design of sustainable city futures and critically examines the interactions between urban development, housing policy and climate change.
  • You will actively participate in the acquisition of innovative research projects within the field of critical urban research and thus contribute to an expanding working group.
  • You will independently design and conduct teaching activities of up to 4 hours per week in the interdisciplinary master’s programme “Regional Science/Spatial Planning”.
  • You will actively define the research and teaching profile of the Institute for Regional Science and partake in the conception and design of a new innovative MA programme on transformative urban and regional research.
  • With your active commitment you will network the Institute of Regional Science both at KIT and in the Baden-Württemberg research landscape and support the international profile of critical urban research at KIT.

Personal qualification

  • You have an interdisciplinary educational background, e.g. in human geography, urban and regional planning, urban sociology or other areas relevant to urban studies.
  • You have preferably completed your doctorate in the field of urban studies, with a particular focus on housing policy, financialization of housing, segregation, urban climate policy or other contemporary social and socio-spatial challenges in the city.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative methods of empirical social research and are also interested in applying (audio)visual, participatory and performative methods in urban studies.
  • You have relevant teaching experience, including the supervision of graduate student research projects.
  • You have published independently in internationally recognised journals for urban studies.
  • You work independently, are target-oriented and like teamwork.
  • You are a talented communicator, have excellent written and spoken English skills and are willing to learn German.
