Project detail:
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a unique class of materials with a wide range of applications such as clean energy technologies. Organometallic compounds, those embracing both an organic group and, for example, a transition metal, are particularly important in this field.

This exciting project will aim to answer the questions of why industrially important iron based organometallic compounds are effective for CNT formation and what are the mechanistic pathway(s) by which this transformation operates.

You will be supported by the Principal and Industrial Investigators to pursue this research programme. This project will involve extensive synthesis (target organometallic compounds/CNTs) and materials characteristion techniques and analyses.

Entry requirements:
A 2:1 honours or master's degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a related materials science subject.

Funding information:
The studentship is for 3 years and provides a tax-free stipend of £15,609 per annum plus tuition fees at the UK rate. Due to funding restrictions, this is only available to those who are eligible to pay UK fees. In order to qualify for a full award, all applicants must meet the EPSRC eligibility criteria including the minimum UK residency requirement.
