Postdoctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge - MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit

The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (CBU) is an internationally renowned research institute with state-of-the-art cognitive neuroscience facilities, a hearing laboratory, and a dedicated developmental research clinic.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to help direct and conduct research in the 4D Lab under the leadership of Dr Duncan Astle. Their primary aim is to map and understand the emergence of neurodevelopmental diversity. Research conducted in the lab sits at the intersection between developmental cognitive neuroscience, psychology and bioinformatics. Anyone with experience in those areas is encouraged to apply. A hallmark of their work is the application of novel methodological approaches to large scale datasets, so experience with this would be a real advantage.

You should hold a PhD relevant field, or be close to submitting your thesis. Experience of working with developmental groups with either language difficulties or problems in learning, attention, memory or mental health is desirable, but by no means essential.

Good interpersonal skills are important. You will be able to provide clear seminars on complex issues to an interdisciplinary audience, provide authoritative advice, support students and staff, and work as part of team on collaborative projects. The position is an ideal springboard for scientists interested in bringing advanced methods to improve our understanding of neurodevelopmental mechanisms, education and mental health outcomes.

For inquiries, contact Duncan Astle, by email: duncan.astle@mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk. Information on the unit can be found at http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk.  Background about 4D Lab can be found here https://www.astlelab.com/

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with children's barred list).
