In 2021 the School of Philosophy Theology and Religion launched an exciting new Masters Programme – a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Faith-Based Leadership — with a Degree Apprenticeship (DA) pathway attached. We are now seeking to appoint a three-year fixed term Assistant Professor with appropriate expertise to support: delivering, coordinating and enhancing the core programme; diversifying and expanding its reach amongst religious and civic leaders; and developing opportunities for related global activity.
Summary of Role
This is an Education focussed role, making contributions to the management, development and delivery of teaching on the MPA programme, and supporting the related development of other similar programmes, including potential delivery at the University of Birmingham’s campus in Dubai. If there is capacity and appropriate expertise, the role could include some contributions to undergraduate modules in the department’s wider provision as an opportunity to further develop the successful candidate’s particular specialism/s. You will be expected to advance teaching and learning practice in your modules within the MPA or other programmes, delivering excellent online and in person, synchronous and asynchronous teaching that inspires students, and is informed by discipline-based scholarship.
The role will also require taking the lead on personal tutoring for MPA students. This will include supporting students directly on their learning journeys. It also links in an important way with the management and administration of the DA pathway, so the successful candidate will also take the lead on coordinating with programme participant employers, managing the agreements with those organisations and ensuring the associated records associated with the Degree Apprenticeship are complete and accurate.
Management and administration duties will primarily focus on the coordination of related systems for the MPA programme, in particular those associated with recruitment and admissions. They will also include making a substantial contribution to activities in the Cadbury Centre, within the Department of Theology and Religion, or the wider University as appropriate, in support of knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, or widening participation and outreach.
