The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-renowned international research university. The Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China officially approved the establishment of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST (GZ)) in June 2022.  Located in Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha, Guangzhou, HKUST(GZ) will open its door on September 1, 2022.  The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures.  4 Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments) are now in place.

About INTR Thrust, HKUST(GZ)

As one of the primary academic units of HKUST (GZ), INTR (Intelligent Transportation) is an integrative and innovative cross-disciplinary thrust under the Systems Hub. With a scope that covers land, air and maritime transportation, we aim to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of multi-modal transportation systems.

Our research focus in the following areas, including but not limited to:

  • Acquisition, Analysis and Applications of Traffic Big Data
  • Shared mobility, Mobility as a service (MaaS)
  • Analysis, Modelling, and Optimization of Transportation System with Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV)
  • Testbed and Traffic Simulation of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV)
  • Operations and Management of Urban Rail Transit Systems
  • Safety and Security of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
  • Green Aviation Technologies
  • Automated Port Operations and Shipping Logistics

INTR Thrust is seeking outstanding candidates to fill newly created substantiation-track faculty positions in the areas of green & sustainable aviation and urban mobility aerial vehicle areas. 

Qualification of Candidates

Applicants should have a PhD in aerospace/aeronautical engineering or related engineering field.  Candidates with expertise in the development and application of new propulsion technologies, including battery, fuel cell and hybrid powered aircraft and flight vehicles, and modern aerial transport including urban mobility aerial vehicles are particularly encouraged to apply.  In addition, outstanding candidates across all areas within aerospace engineering will be considered.  

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Generous research funds, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.

All posts are tenure-track Chinese Mainland appointments to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.  Appointment to Professor rank and some Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years, and re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement.
