We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Professor/Senior Lecturer of Health Data Science within the Health Informatics Centre (HIC), part of the Division of Population Health and Genetics (PH&G). You will consolidate and develop our international excellence in health informatics/health data science research and achieve impact through research which makes a difference to patient’s lives.
You will be working within the Health Informatics Centre (HIC) joining a team of c.60 experts in software development, data management, data governance, cyber security, high performance infrastructures, high performance computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The environment is vibrant, fun, collaborative and fast paced. You will have the opportunity to work with large volumes of health data and collaborate on several large programme grants such as PICTURES (https://www.imageonamission.ac.uk/) and CO-CONNECT (https://co-connect.ac.uk/). We are a member of Health Data Research UK and there many opportunities do develop new projects and collaborations with this virtual institute.
The Division of PH&G includes researchers from many clinical and academic disciplines working in the fields of epidemiology, pharmaco-epidemiology, genomics and pharmacogenomics, infectious diseases, primary care, diabetes, chronic pain, and applied health services research. There are many opportunities to build collaborations within the division and other divisions within the Medical School. There are also many other opportunities for collaboration across the translational spectrum particularly with the School of Life Sciences and Department of Computing, strengthening the existing collaborations.
This role is an ideal opportunity for you to develop and expand your own area of research whilst leveraging the infrastructures, data and expertise available.
Your priorities will include:
- Increase our expertise and capabilities in Health Data Science/Health Informatics
- Produce internationally recognised research outputs
- Attract significant research and industrial funding to Dundee
- Lead a research team and support the development of HIC and PH&G.
- Train the next generation of students and researchers in Health Data Science, including attracting new PhD Students.
- Support the strategic direction of HIC as part of the HIC Senior Management Team
Who we’re looking for:
- A strong track record of publishing high-quality original research outputs in the highest ranked journals in the field
- A PhD and demonstrable experience of leading a research team
- A proven ability to obtain significant grant funding as principal investigator to sustain a research programme
- Proven ability to productively collaborate with researchers, clinicians, managers and policy makers from any or all relevant disciplines
- Experience and skills in teaching
