Teaching Associate in Human Geography and Planning   

Applications are invited for a Teaching Associate post in the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University. This is a part-time, fixed-term posts for 5 years, starting on 1st September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to finding creative solutions and have a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm to deliver high-quality teaching and rigorous assessment for existing modules on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas of Human Geography and Planning. The post will support a variety of activities including field study visits, enhancing our blended learning, and teaching on a range of introductory modules across our programmes.

The post will involve working part-time as a Teaching Associate within the School, with the opportunity to also study towards a PhD part-time in one of the Schools’ research groups, with all associated tuition fees paid and a pro-rata stipend of £8,031.00. Applicants are encouraged to contact potential supervisors to refine their research ideas and align them with the School’s research strategy.

Working as a member of the School’s teaching teams, you will contribute to the running of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and provision of student experience. You will also be supported towards gaining recognition as an Associate Fellow of AdvanceHE (AFHEA).

Part-time PhD

Note that PhD tuition fees will be waived and the stipend paid for the period that you remain as a member of staff (minimum 33% contract) only. The University does not offer PhDs to overseas students for part-time study if a Tier 4 study visa is required. The PhD start date is 9 January 2023 and the application deadline will be the same (as this application).

In-person teaching in the School is mainly based in the Glamorgan Building, but can also take place across the Cathays campus, and occasionally at more distant locations for Field Study Visits. This position will also involve on campus and online teaching, in line with the University’s Blended Learning Framework.

This is a part-time (17.5 hours per week) and fixed-term post for 5 years, with the opportunity to study part-time for a PhD qualification alongside. The package offered if accepted for a part-time PhD includes all tuition fees and an annual stipend payment of £8,031.00 (part time) - (50% of £16,062.00).

The Teaching Associate appointment will be made at the bottom of Grade 5 scale.
