We are seeking to appoint an experienced scientist to take on the role of Programme Leader (Maternity Cover) at the Centre for Medicines Discovery within the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of collaborative research initiatives as a part of a small portfolio management team, as well as supporting principal investigators and departmental administrative staff, especially with project reports and budget management. Portfolio projects range from small virtual initiatives, managed via outsourcing, to large multi-disciplinary, international and multi-million pound syndicates. You will play a leadership role by proactively monitoring and predicting strategic and operational hurdles and solving these issues in order to improve project efficiency. You will also be responsible for coordinating pitches to, and negotiating collaborative agreements with, private investors such as pharma companies and venture funds.
It is essential that you hold a degree in life sciences and a relevant PhD/DPhil, and have demonstrable experience in managing successful complex scientific projects. It is essential you have a period of successful discovery research activity in a bio-medical field that shows the ability to formulate work plans and critique the scientific contributions made by collaborating partners. It is required that you have a scientific or project management record exemplified by a research publication record or the referenced leadership of professional initiatives. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both face-to-face and remotely and have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience of successful grant writing would be an advantage.
