The Global Head of Assessment (GHA) is a key role in the Learning Effectiveness Team (LET).  The Learning Effectiveness team’s function is to support the delivery of a high-quality and holistic approach to education for all our student cohorts. This role sits in the Curriculum Office and the focus of the team is to support quality and effectiveness in our curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment supporting excellent student outcomes for students based in international study centres, colleges, learning hubs and managed campuses as well as students studying via online modes.

The GHA will develop and maintain an outstanding portfolio of creative assessments that deliver transformative education to students across the UK and globally and secure Study Group’s position as a world leader in international education.   The Global Head of Assessment will have responsibility for designing innovative and high-quality assessments, in conjunction with Global Heads of Curriculum, which ensures an appropriate balance between validity, comparability, and reliability. Working closely with the Quality Unit, the role holder will need to apply a creative and ideas-driven approach to assessment design to meet the requirements of internal and external stakeholders, including QAA and OfS.

Working closely with the Director of Curriculum and the Registrar/Director of Quality, the role holder will develop network-wide plans, implement new strategies, and ensure consistency with assessment, learning and teaching and subject policies, standards, and regulatory frameworks. Subject knowledge expertise, experience in leading academic teams successfully and a keen eye for assessment detail, the role holder will work with the Learning Effectiveness Team, Centre Heads and Subject leads to develop a community of excellence in assessment.

The role holder will also be responsible for leading a community of practitioners around continuous improvement cycles, ensuring excellent high standards of assessment are carried out in our centres. The role will also aim to stimulate innovative practices offered in blended modes – as well as purely digital, including online assessment tools such as Wiseflow proctoring service (or others).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assists centres in using the results of assessment to improve student learning and program effectiveness
  • To coordinate data collection and analysis, summarise assessment findings,
  • To stimulate and lead a community of practice in Assessment (both summative and formative) including training sessions and CPD for staff
  • To act as the Assessment Expert for Centres in support of Assessment Development and Design.
  • To assist academic staff in designing, implementing, and improving all aspects of the assessment of the program and module-level student learning outcomes
  • Working in conjunction with the Global Heads of Curriculum to deliver fit-for-purpose assessment design solutions.
  • To assist in maintaining compliance with discipline-specific assessment-related accreditation standards and aligns those efforts with QAA requirements.
  • The GHA will participate in internal governance meetings on assessment design and assessment outcome-related matters

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Batchelor degree (essential)
  • Master’s degree (desirable)
  • Teaching qualification (desirable)
  • Leadership and management experience in a teaching, learning and assessment environment
