In REF 2021 the Department of Psychology was ranked at 15th in the UK for research power. The overall submission to unit of assessment 4 was 76% 3/4*, with 95% of the staff base included in the submission. As a researcher within the Department of Psychology, you would have access to a brand new research space hosting a wide range of research resources, including: 3DMD photogrammetry body scanner, 14-camera Vicon motion capture suite, SR Research and Tobii eye tracking equipment, NIRS, transcranial magnetic stimulation, an immersive virtual reality suite, a two-bedroom sleep laboratory, psychophysiologic assessment tools (e.g. polysomnography, GSR, EEG, EMG), and wet labs for taking human samples. Our popular Psychology courses cater to a vibrant student community of over 1000 undergraduate students and nearly 200 postgraduate students, across two undergraduate and six postgraduate programmes, plus a rapidly growing distance learning provision. The Department actively works with all academic staff to ensure teaching activity does not come at the expense of research time, and promotes engagement with sabbaticals to facilitate the development of grant submissions and collaborative projects. The department of Psychology holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in recognition of its organisational and cultural practices promoting gender equality.

As a recognised leader in cyberpsychology you will contribute to the strategic leadership of the Psychology and Communication (P@CT) Lab, and the line management of academic staff and research teams. You will seek funding to expand P@CT Labs research portfolio and publish high quality impactful research outputs. P@CT Lab is one of the few human computer interaction groups based within a psychology department in the UK. It explores the ways in which new communications media and technology affect our everyday choices and behaviours. P@CT is particularly interested in users' perceptions of trust, privacy and security and how perceptions influence intention to use certain technology. You will also contribute to the delivery of undergraduate modules, project, thesis and PhD supervision.
