Senior Lecturer in Games Technology

University of the West of England, Bristol - Department of Computer Science and Creative Technology (CSCT)

About the vacancy:

The Department of Computer Science and Creative Technology (CSCT) at UWE Bristol are seeking to recruit TWO Senior Lecturers in Games Technology.

Games Technology is well-established at UWE and an area of growth for CSCT. We currently offer a BSc in Games Technology which attracts around 300 applicants a year for about 85 places, as well as an MSc programme.

Maintaining and developing links with industry is at the forefront of our activities. Over the past 5 years we have worked alongside Rolls Royce, ClairCity, Samsung, Sony, Aardman, and many independent games studios. CSCT is also home to our internal games studio, PlayWest, which has many connections with the University’s technology and innovation hub - The Foundry. As part of the role, there will be opportunities to work alongside staff and students on external projects.

About you:

For both positions, you should possess - as a minimum - a BSc in Games Technology or a closely related discipline.

The first role would suit an industry professional looking to make a transition into academia. Extensive experience of working as a Games Developer is essential. We are particularly looking to recruit individuals with extensive knowledge of C++ and game engines, also game physics, game pipelines and dev kits. An understanding of production process and large project GIT handling would also be advantageous.

The second role would suit an individual with proven experience working within an academic setting as a Senior Lecturer. Experience of academic leadership (such as a module or course leader) is desirable. With opportunities to research, we would expect this candidate to have a well-established research profile and a good publication record.  This person should have a PhD in a relevant subject.

The primary focus of both of these roles will be teaching and, we expect candidates for the positions to have a genuine desire/passion to teach about Games Technology. We are also looking to grow our commercial activities, as such we are keen to encourage applications from candidates who have a proven track record of commercial games projects and obtaining funding within the industry.
