Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in simulation modelling or health economics research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?

We are looking to appoint two Research Fellows in Health Economics to contribute to the research and teaching portfolio of the Academic Unit of Health Economics (AUHE), Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The posts are available immediately and are three year fixed term in the first instance.  However, AUHE has an excellent track record in securing the funding required to extend research post contracts.

This is an exciting opportunity for two health economists to join a thriving health economics research team with a commitment to supporting and developing its members. We have a wide portfolio of funded research projects which provides the opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of health economic methods and their application and further develop your own areas of expertise and interests.

In the first post, the candidate will be working on several projects requiring the development of a simulation model (e.g. a discrete event simulation model). One project is aimed at evaluating the cost-effectiveness of medical devices (across several case study clinical pathways) focusing on a circular economy approach (i.e. manufacturing processes adopting “use, reuse and recycle” principles to minimise environmental impacts). Another project will include the development of a simulation model to capture system capacity constraints/benefits in the economic evaluation of alternative therapies for patients with polymyalgia rheumatica.

In the second post, the researcher will be contributing to a mix of research projects across antimicrobial resistance and frailty. One of the projects involves evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a penicillin allergy assessment pathway. In each of these projects, the research activity will focus on the development of decision analytic models to assess the cost-effectiveness of the different technologies as well as the analysis of trial and real world data.

To explore the posts further or for any queries you may have, please contact: Dr. Armando Vargas-Palacios (A.Vargas-Palacios@leeds.ac.uk) [for post one] or Dan Howdon (D.Howdon@leeds.ac.uk) [for post two].
