Do you have experience of offering counselling and advice in sensitive and complex cases? 

Are you practiced in providing support and advice to people who have experienced bullying, hate incidents or discrimination?

Our Mental Health & Wellbeing team is expanding and this new role has been created to supplement the support we offer to students, in particular specialist emotional and practical support following such incidents.

The post is based in Canterbury, however travel to Medway will be required to support students and deliver training. 

Working with the Specialist Wellbeing Manager and alongside a multi-disciplinary team of Mental Health Advisers and Counsellors, you will deliver high-quality specialist advice to students, some of whom may have mental health difficulties that either arise following an incident or are pre-existing.

As Specialist Wellbeing Adviser you can expect to get involved in:

  • providing a rapid response to critical situations
  • offering specialist advice and support to students who have experienced hate incidents, bullying, harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, drink spiking or abusive behaviours
  • developing positive links and effective communication with key partners including the police and local/national agencies
  • delivering training and raising awareness

What you will bring to the role:

  • experience of using counselling/advice and guidance skills to a high level in sensitive and complex cases
  • experience of risk assessment, risk management and responding proactively to mental health emergencies
  • excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and calmly in a pressurised environment
