We are delighted to announce the creation of a new IR & Projects Specialist post in the Strategy & Projects team, within HR. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in a fast-paced and varied role with reach across the institution and opportunities to work with a range of different stakeholders.

Working for the Head of IR and Policy the postholder will be expected to manage multiple smaller projects or make a significant contribution to larger projects, all of which are of strategic HR importance and have an impact across the University.  In addition the postholder will also support the Head of IR and Policy in developing and maintaining constructive working relationships with the recognised trade unions at the University.  You will be expected to work proactively and use your initiative and planning skills to set your own priorities.

Main duties include:

Project Delivery

  • Responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects or supporting larger strategic HR projects.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive evaluation strategy for the project.
  • Develop reporting mechanisms for the project then report on project progress to the project board or senior managers and highlight any risks.
  • Maintain a risk register as appropriate, and communicate risks in a timely manner, proactively proposing solutions.
  • Engage and communicate with a variety of stakeholders to ensure progress but also to disseminate outputs of the project as appropriate.

Industrial Relations

  • Providing high level specialist support for a range of IR activities.
  • Working with colleagues across HR on the IR implications of policy changes and changes to terms and conditions of employment including researching, benchmarking and drafting policy where required.

Person Specification includes;

  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent level qualifications) plus significant relevant practical experience – either in project management or IR; where no equivalent qualification is held substantial practical relevant experience and expertise in a series of progressively more demanding roles will be required.
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences, and to produce and analyse source material, information and data.
  • Authoritative knowledge of the work practices, processes and procedures relevant to the role, including broader sector/commercial awareness.
  • Up to date understanding of employment legislation, and experience in working with Trade Unions
  • Proven ability to meet targets, with minimal supervision to deadlines
  • Substantial experience of engaging, and collaborating, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills that will help to identify and implement improvements and efficiencies across the project or projects you work on
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including orally and in writing, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Highly proficient IT skills, including the MS Office suite.
