Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant to assist Professor Becky Taylor on the ESRC-funded Gypsy and Traveller Experiences of Crime and Justice Since the 1960s project. The project is a multidisciplinary collaboration with Professor Zoë James (University of Plymouth) and Professor Coretta Phillips (LSE).

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual with experience working with East Anglia’s Gypsy and Traveller populations to assist Prof Becky Taylor in running a crime survey across East Anglia. We are particularly keen to receive applications from those of Gypsy or Traveller origin.

The role will require working closely with the local Gypsy and Traveller populations to recruit survey respondents and will demand skills in interviewing people about sensitive issues.

You will work alongside researchers administering the survey in three other sites in England and help co-ordinate the work of contract interviewers.

You should have:

  • Experience of constructively working with East Anglia’s Gypsy and Traveller populations
  • A record of making contact and working with marginalised populations
  • An understanding of the issues surrounding Gypsies’ and Travellers’ experiences in British society
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel independently across the East Anglian region

This full-time post is available from 21 November 2022 on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
