Job description

Applications are invited for the position of Technician (grade 3) in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) in the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, King’s College London. Reporting to the Rayne Institute Technical Manager in CCC, the post holder will be part of a team of technical staff providing support to the Centre in its laboratory and office spaces in the Rayne Institute and SGDP building on Denmark Hill campus. Our research activities there focus on blood cancers (haemato-oncology) and other blood disorders such as sickle cell anaemia.

This role is an exciting opportunity to support a large group of academics, research staff and students with a diverse range of scientific interests that encompass disciplines such as cell biology, immunology, and biochemistry.

The successful candidate should have experience in a laboratory environment, should be self-motivated, have good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work enthusiastically and effectively as part of a team. Training will be provided as necessary.

The position encompasses a breadth of activities including support for:

  • Preventative maintenance, service, and repair of a wide range of equipment, including fault finding
  • Housekeeping and operational tasks, including waste disposal, autoclaving, lab organisation and maintaining inventories for chemicals and assets
  • Health & safety, including training and induction, maintenance of risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures, monitoring and compliance, and emergency response
  • Implementation of environmentally sustainable working practices 

Opportunities for professional development will be available and this full-time post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

The Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) forms part of the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences whose mission is improving patient response through fundamental science discovery. The CCC is the academic arm of one of the leading cancer centres in Europe, which brings together world-class clinical services, research, and education. The Centre has identified research priorities working at the clinical / non-clinical interface and across multiple disciplines, such as genomics, imaging, and biology, that will provide solutions for patient care.
