Job Summary

The successful candidate for this post will assist and support basic, translational research studies and perform bioinformatic analyses related to analysis of big datasets, including GWAS, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq (bulk and single cell), RNA-Seq (bulk and single cell), CITE-Seq, Whole Exome Sequencing, along with integration of electronic medical records. The candidate will need to have evident working experience with script based NGS data analysis and bioinformatics.

The post-holder will perform bioinformatic analysis for data integration and single cell data analysis generated using 10x Genomics and other platforms. The post holder will use bioinformatics pipeline/systems well established in the group but will have the freedom to develop novel bioinformatics pipeline to investigate novel hypotheses. Once appointed, the post holder will be involved in developing and driving the project as well as writing up work for presentation and publication.

The post holder will manage relevant academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, coordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. The post holder will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, and review and refine working hypotheses as appropriate. In addition to this, experience with unbiased flow cytometry analysis using visNE, FlowSOM or GigaSOM would also be an advantage. The ideal candidate will be highly communicative with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Competency in bioinformatics for data integration and single cell data analysis using 10x genomics.
  • Strong programming skills (i.e. Phyton or R) and competency in command line and use of high-performance computing.
  • Experience and competency in the use of next generation sequencing pipelines in the context of transcriptomics (bulk and single cell) and ATAC-Seq.
  • Experience with unbiased clustering analysis (viSNE, FlowSOM and GigaSOM).
  • To perform statistical and bioinformatic analysis of NGS and other omics data.
  • To conduct data analysis, ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times.
  • To conduct a specified programme of research and scholarship under the supervision and direction of your Principal Investigator.

Essential requirements 

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Immunology, Genomics Immunology and/or Cancer Biology or a closely related discipline
  • Research Assistant: Near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in Immunology, Genomics Immunology and/or Cancer Biology or a closely related discipline
  • Strong programming skills (i.e. Phyton or R) and competency in command line and use of high-performance computing.
  • Experience with in-depth experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data (with a focus on transcriptomics and epigenetics) and/or analysis of other single cell technologies.

Further Information

This is a Full Time and Fixed Term role for 1 year initially based at the South Kensington Campus.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 - £41,388 per annum.
