CDT’s exciting mission is to identify novel research opportunities which have the potential to create new business opportunities whilst also benefiting our wider society.  We are committed to sustainable and ethical business practices and are uniquely positioned to support the changes required to build a better world.  We thrive on collaboration to identify creative and innovative solutions to address key global challenges in the areas of environment, ICT, healthcare and food.

Vibrant and diverse, we encourage all our employees to develop their research expertise with us, with the freedom to promote their ideas in an inclusive and supportive environment.  Take a look at our website for more - www.cdtltd.co.uk

You should be interested in bringing to market the next generation of fluorescent tags for biomedical applications and will provide a strong scientific contribution to the development of fluorescent nanoparticles. You will develop microplate assays to simulate real world biomedical applications, with a particular focus on assay surface chemistry, which will be used to evaluate the performance of our fluorescent nanoparticles. Once developed, you will provide feedback on the performance of the bio-functionalised nanoparticles in these assays to the material development team so improvements can be made.

You will hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biological Chemistry, Surface Chemistry or a related field, or a degree with equivalent relevant research experience gained in an industrial or academic environment.  You can add value to our research with your experience of surface immobilisation of biomolecules and ideally experience in either understanding of oligonucleotide immobilisation techniques, surface characterisation techniques, fluorescence based assays and/or surface functionalisation of nanoparticles.

With outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to all audiences, you will be self-motivated and proactive, with creative and inventive problem-solving abilities.  You must understand and thrive on the demands of driven industrial research and be able to demonstrate that you work with the same drive and passion as all our teams.

We offer a friendly and fun working environment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, as we firmly believe flexibility and diversity enhances our research excellence.  We offer a fantastic holiday allowance (27 days for full time employees), bank holidays, an additional day off to celebrate your birthday and a day off for you to undertake voluntary work aligned with our values!  Where appropriate, we will cover the costs of visa sponsorship and provide relocation support if you require this in order to work with us.

We also offer all the usual benefits you would expect, including private health and dental insurance, life assurance, income protection insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme and a pension scheme.   It goes without saying that our salaries are also pretty good, supported by a generous sign-on bonus to welcome you and help ease the move to CDT.
