The University’s Commercial Services and Estates Department have a fantastic opportunity for a Control Systems Technician to provide subject matter expertise and custodianship of campus wide access control systems.

As Control Systems Technician, you will:

  • Deliver and specify major repairs, upgrades and new installations projects to ensure control systems remain secure and reliable. 
  • Act as subject matter expert for access control and automatic door equipment installed across the organisation. 
  • Advise the Senior Management Team on the development of the University’s Access Control strategies, to ensure optimum building security is provided to mitigate business risks across the organisation.
  • Manage access control related maintenance and installation contracts, monitoring contractor performance, to ensure works and services are completed to specification and within agreed Key Performance Indicators.

To be successful you will have:

  • Demonstrable practical experience and relevant technical knowledge in the delivery of electronic and electrical system maintenance or projects.
  • Engineering HNC/D or equivalent experience in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. 
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation in relation to electrical and electronic services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to enable production and presentation of technical reports utilising Microsoft Office products.

There are three different card access systems controlling 1000’s of devices across 100’s of buildings situated within a 300-acre campus. 

The main targets for this role holder are to deliver frequent projects, typically ranging from £1k to £25k, plus regular technical support tasks such as technical investigations and surveys, procedure review, RCA, advice and guidance.

You may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends as required in line with operational requirements, this includes Student Arrivals weekend, which takes place annually in September.
