Summary 

ACLT is committed to creating effective learning and qualifications to enhance the knowledge, skills and competencies of aspiring costs lawyers and the costs lawyers’ profession. ACLT is the only organisation accredited by the Costs Lawyers Standards Board (CLSB) to deliver the training for and award accreditation as a costs lawyer in England & Wales.

The costs profession is undergoing an exciting and rapid period of change and development with costs lawyers moving into new areas of practice and changing business models. At the same time, the CLSB has redefined the competencies for the newly qualified professional.

As the Head of Education, you will be responsible for managing existing and developing ACLT education and qualification programmes. This will include continuous review and enhancement of existing courses and scoping and developing new courses to provide an innovative and superior suite of learning programmes for students and clients. The Head of Education will be a key member of the ACLT team and will establish a very close working relationship with the Board of ACLT, and the Executive and Council of the Association of Costs Lawyers. The Head of Education will also work closely with the ACLT Registry and Student Services team (currently managed by LawCabs) to ensure programmes are delivered in an efficient manner and students are properly supported through their studies.

You will maintain ACLT’s relationships with the CLSB and legal employers. You will have a background in monitoring and developing legal training courses and experience of delivering training, mentoring and support to candidates or their employers seeking to enhance their professional qualifications and practice skills. 

Qualifications and experience

The successful candidate will be/have:

  • A legal professional qualification, ideally with litigation/costs expertise and experience.
  • Teaching and learning experience in the legal professional higher education market.
  • Understanding of the needs of a professional legal audience.
  • Experience in course design and review, particularly in the development of online learning programmes.
  • Experience in coordinating /managing multiple, concurrent projects, with the ability to manage expectations effectively when handling priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work in a geographically distributed virtual team environment and build relationships with internal and external organisations.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with students to ensure they achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate at a professional level with internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to line manage outsourced course designers and tutors effectively.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan efficiently.
  • Seasoned and flexible team player with a growth mindset and bias for action.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
