JOB OVERVIEW

You will have proven experience in strategic leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with evidence of significant success and results. You will have a strong understanding of UK Higher Education and experience in managing study programmes, student support services, administration and staff within an international, UK further and/or Higher Education context. You will be able to articulate and implement a clear vision to drive forward continuous improvement, as well as monitor and achieve our targets for student outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate strong ability and a track record of collaborative working, which would facilitate strong working relationships with our university partner, as well as across the Study Group network. Ideally, you will have experience in negotiating and working collaboratively with trade unions or similar staff organisations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Play a key role in developing DUISC, in accordance with Study Group’s Mission, Vision and Values and the Centre Action Plan.
  • Articulate and implement our vision to drive forward continuous improvement and enable the centre to achieve the aspirational targets for student outcomes and contractual targets for student progression
  • Work closely with the Learning Delivery, Recruitment and Partnership Directors to implement a strategic approach to the partnership with the host university, progression, including developing new progression routes that maximise opportunities for recruitment to the centre
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant university partnership Boards and committees and work with university colleagues through approved liaison points and report regularly on these through the centre deliberative and management structures
  • Set the framework for and oversee the allocation of teaching resources, ensuring that teaching and learning activities are planned and delivered within an agreed budget and meet operational margins.
  • Ensure that effective processes are in place for the recruitment of academic staff and ensure that all academic staff are suitably qualified to teach sessions and courses on which they are scheduled.
  • Create effective internal partnerships with key stakeholders from the Provider and Central Operations Teams; including HR, Finance, IT, Estates, Data Team, Sales and Marketing, and Academic Office.
  • Effectively deal with serious incidents and crises, supporting and guiding staff to make decisions themselves and taking the lead where appropriate and following escalation protocols.
  • Personally and through your team, manage and address any day-to-day issues that arise (including the student or staff disciplinary process  suspension, chair hearings or deliver outcomes), working with colleagues across the centre, the University, Study Group and externally in order to identify solutions and resolve problems effectively and efficiently
  • Prepare and present any business cases to recruit or resource to meet the needs of the curriculum. This will include detailing any budget requirements during the allocation phase
  • Lead on ensuring that the design and delivery of all courses are conducted with reference to and according to Study Group’s, partner universities and relevant external agencies’ quality frameworks, policies, procedures and codes of practice.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • At least master’s degree qualified or equivalent.
  • Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment
  • Experience of teaching in the UK higher or further education
  • Experience in leading and facilitating change
  • Experience in teaching international students
  • Experience in planning and running complex education courses and programmes
  • Experience in partnership working or partnership management in the education sector
