Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate to join an exciting new project. The new consortium, Accelerating Research and Innovation for Advanced Therapies (WWW.ardat.org), is supported by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and brings together the leading expertise of 34 academic, non-profit and private organisations from across Europe and the US.

The ARDAT consortium will aim to help fill the knowledge gaps in how cell and gene therapies could potentially work, and to develop appropriate standards to aid researchers, developers and regulators in accelerating effective and safe gene and cell therapies to benefit patients.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to work on a project at the translational medicine interface in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). You will be a practically skilled, well organised, flexible and committed Researcher who will join the team led by Prof Mimoun Azzouz.

You will conduct laboratory research on a semi-independent basis under the direction of the principle investigator. You will be expected to: design, execute and evaluate experiments; keep excellent experimental records; prepare reports regularly and feed back to the consortium partners in regular conference calls. You are also expected to contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, attend and deliver seminars and supervise undergraduate students.

You will have a strong in vivo pre-clinical experience to undertake gene therapy efficacy and immunogenicity studies for C9orf72 linked ALS. Expertise in molecular, cellular biology and gene therapy will be advantageous. The successful candidate should be strongly motivated, self-driven, able to accept direction and be an excellent team player. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are expected.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of acceleration of advanced therapies medicinal products (ATMPs).

This post is fixed term for 30 months with potential for further extension and is available immediately.
