About the role
Bath School of Music and Performing Arts has an excellent reputation for training creatives in all aspects of music and performance. Uniquely we operate our own production company, Bath Spa Production which works across industry and academia and is a key mechanism for knowledge exchange. We seek to appoint a Singing Teaching fellow, and a Stage Combat Fellow to work with our actors in training.
We recognise that actors will at times need to sing as part of their performance work, but that different actors will have differing levels of musical skill. As part of our actor training processes we seek a singing tutor who can work with differing abilities but help students develop clear strategies for singing on stage. Stage combat tuition will therefore span the academic year, with the opportunity for summer schools or short courses should some students wish to take advanced qualifications.
You will have a proven industry record as singer or vocal coach for live or recorded work, but you will also understand how to balance that work with teaching that engages students. Or you will be a stage combat director and tutor for live or recorded work. In either role you will be an enabler who can teach and assess students and prepare them to work in rehearsal and performance spaces.
You will be open-minded, flexible and willing to push boundaries as part of a team in order to keep us at the forefront of our discipline.
Bath Spa University is focused on creative enterprise and guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration and sustainability. Our research centres focus on creative industries and humanities.
Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.
Bath School of Music and Performing Arts is a leading provider of vocational training and education across the entire range of Theatre , Music and Dance. With excellent connections to industry, and EMMY and BAFTA award-winning graduates we offer great opportunity to work in a professionally-focused environment.
