Job Summary

Are you looking for an exciting prospect starting as soon as possible for a fixed term period?

The University of Buckingham created the UK's first independent, not-for-profit, Medical School in 2015. Our guiding philosophy is to produce highly ethical, honest, and compassionate doctors who will put the patient first. We now have an intake of around 120 students per year on the four-and-a-half-year course. We received our GMC accreditation in May 2019 and our first intake who graduated in June 2019, took up their Foundation Training in August 2019.

Role Purpose

This is a chance to develop your teaching skills. Working three or four days per week at The University of Buckingham Medical School, you will facilitate biomedical science and clinical teaching of first and second year medical students. These appointments have been developed to support high quality teaching of undergraduate medical students at the University of Buckingham Medical School during the first two University-based years (Phase I). The posts are suitable for doctors who have completed a minimum of 2 years of general professional training after graduation, and who wish to gain further experience in undergraduate teaching.

The post is designed to provide postgraduate doctors at Core level an opportunity to explore Medical Education as part of their career. This fixed-term post (0.6/0.8FTE,) based at the University, is aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience and develop expertise in educational theory. The salary for a full time equivalent (FTE) is £39,729.08p.a, with a good pension scheme. The role leaves time to do clinical work for part of the week.

The job is enjoyable and rewarding. Being 8.30am to 5.30pm it gives an opportunity to study for exams, develop interests outside medicine or even plan a wedding. The role is very beneficial to your CV, with all previous roleholders attaining a place on the rotation that they subsequently applied for.

Please note that as the post is for short term contract, the post holder will not be able to join the PG Cert in Medical Education course, however if the post was to be extended for a further 12 months then the post holder would be eligible for funding for this course.
