Hours: Full Time

The School of Archaeology and Keble College are seeking applications for the Professorship of European Archaeology.

The Professorship of European Archaeology was established in 1946. The first holder of the Chair, C.F.C. Hawkes, was succeeded by Barry Cunliffe in 1972. The current holder, Professor Chris Gosden, retires in 2023. The University seeks a replacement to carry forward world-leading, innovative research in later European prehistory.

You will have an outstanding, internationally recognised research record, as well as the vision, leadership skills, and experience needed to build on the School of Archaeology’s existing strengths and develop new avenues of research. There is a requirement to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, provide academic leadership and show commitment to recruiting, training and mentoring the next generation of archaeological researchers.

If you would like to discuss this post, please contact Professor Helena Hamerow, (helena.hamerow@arch.ox.ac.uk).

All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision.

All applications must be received by 12.00 noon on Monday 9 January 2023. Interviews will take place on Thursday 23 or Friday 24 February 2022.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
