About the Role
Heriot Watt University is expanding its portfolio into sport education and has recently re-introduced a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science at its Edinburgh Campus which commenced in September 2022. In collaboration with Oriam, Scotland’s National Performance Centre, the launch of the new BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science is an exciting opportunity to develop an outstanding, modern and inclusive programme of teaching and research in Sport and Exercise Science. As a result, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sport and/or Exercise Biomechanics.
You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with proven communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an enriching student experience, allowing students to develop the key skills needed as a modern Sport and Exercise Scientist. An established national profile in the field of biomechanics with extensive teaching experience on relevant programmes is essential. To be successful you will further enrich our students’ experience through your expertise and subject knowledge as evidenced through your qualifications and experience.
The overall strategy and shape of the Sport and Exercise Science Team is developing, the main focusses of the programme are to create high quality Sport and Exercise Science by 1) utilising technology to deliver from the Laboratory to the Field, 2) embedding Open Scholarship throughout undergraduate and postgraduate delivery; and 3) ensuring Integrate Approaches, where appropriate, so that the core disciplines of Sport and Exercise Science are taught alongside one another.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in the broader area of Sport and/or Exercise Biomechanics and have a clear and evidenced personal research focus, and experience of attracting external research funding, publishing in international journals and presenting at international conferences.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
You will be required to make a significant contribution to the design and delivery of Biomechanics within the new BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science. Enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, you will contribute to the educational delivery, as well as a significant contribution to professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level. You will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the School and to meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).
