The School of Natural and Built Environment (NBE) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Lecturer in Planning. The successful applicant will deliver professionally accredited Modules in Planning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The applicant will therefore be expected to engage significantly with the teaching, assessment, organisation and administration of Planning Education elements within the School. This will consist of assisting with coordinating modules alongside working with colleagues to deliver lectures leading seminars, conducting tutorials and participating in a range of 
teaching activities.

Importantly, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the existing Research Culture within the school by joining the existing Environmental and Spatial Governance (ENSGOV) research cell cluster. The successful candidate will develop funding applications that align with the cluster’s focus on research that critically engages with spatial and regulatory practices that underpin and challenge effective and fair governance, particularly those associated with sustainable and just transitions. They will also be expected to operate in support of ENSGOV research-active colleagues as required. Hence a capacity to contribute to one or more of the following research foci would be welcomed: sustainable energy planning, coastal and marine planning, and communities and the 
social economy.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Relevant degree (minimum 2:1) or equivalent
  • PhD completed in Planning or a cognate subject
  • At least one, peer-reviewed journal article on a topic germane to environmental and spatial governance
  • Experience in operating as a PI or CI in grant funded research projects
  • Experience in delivery of education to undergraduate planning students to achieve RTPI professional accreditation
  • Understanding of the legal, rural, urban and sustainability in contemporary planning practice.
