About the role

You'll continue the momentum following the University of Derby’s submission to REF 2021, as an Impact Officer you will provide training and resources to enable the College staff and students to understand impact. You will also support researchers to plan their impact; implement public engagement projects and work with partners; capture robust evidence; monitor progress on impact; evaluate outcomes and benefits; archive evidence and results and ensure appropriate profiling of impact.

The overall aim is to ensure that the College derives maximum impact from its research endeavours. You will work to develop a detailed understanding of research and knowledge exchange activity across the College in order to identify and advise on potential areas of impact and to develop REF impact case studies for REF Units of Assessment (UoAs) and effective methods of documenting these. You will lead on the improvement of systems and processes that support the College’s development, dissemination and monitoring of research impact, with the aim of ensuring maximum impact from these activities. You will also be expected to make an effective contribution to the wider development of research within the College/University through the development of your own research outputs.

This position requires someone who is substantially skilled in data collection, analysis and report writing and they will have discipline-specific experience at doctoral level appropriate to the College. You will engage proactively with academic colleagues to ensure the effective capture of research impacts and the knowledge exchange activities of colleagues and develop a detailed understanding of research and knowledge exchange activity across the College in order identify and advise on potential areas of impact. You will provide regular reports on impact progress to College and University Governance committees.

As one of four Impact Officers, you will work collaboratively with the University Impact Network, led from the University’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Office. The Impact Network will ensure the University’s impact policies and guidance are delivered at College level.
