About the role
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced tutor to join our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU). This unit is part of the Centre for International Training and Education, sitting within the University of Leicester’s External Relations Division. At present, there are around 35 permanent members of staff, as well as an additional 30 staff on fixed term contracts and a varying number of part-time hourly paid tutors and support staff.
As a Senior Tutor, you will take a lead responsibility for the development, delivery and quality enhancement of parts of CITE provision as part of the Senior Management Team. This role would mostly be within the English Language Teaching Unit, but could involve working alongside the other 3 CITE units: Study Abroad Unit; Sanctuary Seekers’ Unit and International Professional Development Unit. This role will be based in Leicester, but the department has a number of international projects, which may require the successful candidate to travel and/or spend time based in another country.
We are seeking an experienced senior tutor who can teach high-quality lessons within a communicative approach. You should be able to adapt to institutional and student needs and be willing to collaborate with colleagues in the ongoing development of the English language programme. Additionally, as this is intensive provision and pandemic considerations are still relevant, you should be able to adapt to unpredictable challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
You will hold a recognised TEFL qualification, such as CELTA, and have substantial experience in teaching EFL on both pre-sessional and in-sessional programmes, ideally with Chinese and Arabic speaking learners.
Experience of course design, preferably in EAP, in a university context is highly desirable. This should include experience developing and implementing quality assurances procedures to maintain standards and enhance quality on EFL/EAP programmes.
