About us

Student and Registry Services supports the full student lifecycle at UCL from widening participation activity through to graduation and beyond. We also deliver support for the policy framework and operational infrastructure that underpins a high quality student experience. Our core departments cover Access and Widening Participation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Admissions, Student Funding, Immigration Compliance and Advice, Education Services, Student Operations, Student Support and Wellbeing, Study Abroad, Student Welcome and Office for Students Compliance activities. We work collaboratively across UCL to support the delivery of an outstanding student experience in a dynamic world leading university. UCL’s Education Services department is part of Student and Registry Services and is responsible for providing a range of services that centre around UCL’s education and student experience policy framework. The department plays a key role in ensuring that our! regulati on, policy and student engagement framework support the delivery of UCL’s education strategy and our compliance with Office for Students B conditions. The teams within Education Service are Student Casework, Academic Policy, Quality and Standards, and Student Engagement.

About the role

The Head of Academic Policy, Quality and Standards is responsible for developing and implementing an effective and efficient policy framework for the UCL education and student experience. The areas that currently report into this role are Academic Regulations and Policy, Quality and Standards, Programme and Module Approval, Degree Apprenticeships and International Partnerships. The role holder is also responsible for participating in both the Student Experience and Education Change Portfolios, the institutional vehicles for delivering change and improvements across all our activities. UCL is developing a genuinely risk-based and data-informed approach to its quality and standards activity in tandem with reducing complexity in our policy framework. A key duty of the Head of Academic Policy, Quality and Standards is to bring clarity and accessibility to our policy framework whilst also reducing complexity.

About you

You will be an experienced higher education professional with a thorough knowledge of the opportunities and challenges across the sector. You will also have a well-developed understanding of the Office for Student B conditions and other regulatory requirements across the sector. We are looking for someone who has experience of developing policy and regulation in a university environment with a clear focus on practical implementation. Ideally you will also be experienced in using and presenting data and be able to take a risk-based approach to policy and regulation. A key skill for this role is the ability to reduce complexity and present policy in a concise and easy to understand manner. You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to lead and inspire a team though supportive and emotionally intelligent leadership. We are looking for someone who can work with a wide range of stakeholders including working with our students.
