Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to work within the group of Prof. Silvia Vignolini at the Department of Chemistry in the Bio-inspired photonic group. The position will be focused on developing new optical tools to study how different living organisms build symbiotic interactions for light management and to investigate light-matter interaction in bio-inspired bionic and living materials, within the remit of her recently awarded ERC Consolidator BiTe.
The PRDA will be expected to study optical properties of a large variety of photonic structures ranging from micro to macro algae, to artificial photonic material and random structures.
The succesful candidate will have a PhD in Physics/Engineering with a strong background in nano-photonics, light matter interaction. They will be expected to be able to program, interface equipment, and master experimental techniques like microscopy and spectroscopy.
Candidates with experience in modeling light-matter interaction are strongly favoured: in particular we encourage applicants with experience in ray tracing optics and/or finite element (FE) and finite time domain (FDTD).
