The School of Global Development at UEA and the Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) advertise one 3-year PhD Postgraduate Research Studentship researching livelihoods and natural resources, starting October 2023.

Applications are invited for original empirical research projects, including significant fieldwork, focusing on livelihoods and natural resources. Example topics including environmental degradation, energy use and environment, environmental impact, wildlife management sustainability, natural hazard vulnerability, climate change, community-based resource management and solutions. This is not an exhaustive list.

The successful candidate will be offered a co-supervised Cotutelle arrangement Study time will be divided between the two universities, starting at UEA. Candidates will be enrolled at both institutions and successful completion will result in both institutions awarding PhD degrees.

This co-financed award offers a UEA studentship with additional PhD support whilst at UCPH. The UEA studentship covers tuition fees, a tax-free maintenance grant (£17,668 pa 22/23), and a research training support grant, paid through UEA During the candidates stay in Copenhagen, UCPH will offer DKK 8000 per month up to a maximum of 12 months, in total.

Applicants must have excellent academic qualifications which meet the entry requirements of both Universities, in a relevant social sciences area. Evidence of competence in English may be required. Relevant work experience may also be considered.
