The University of Winchester delivers the First Star Scholars Scheme, a 4-year University-preparatory programme for young people in secondary school (age 14 onwards) who are Looked After Children. The scheme strives to support young people through their GCSE studies and on to post 16 studies in preparation for higher education, apprenticeships and employment. We seek to equip them with the skills to successfully transition to adulthood.
We are looking for a GCSE Science Teacher for the delivery of Science revision lessons for our monthly on-campus Saturday classes, starting in January 2023, and an on-campus residential, in April 2023 (see dates below). There is the potential to extend the work period until 2025, for the right candidate.
The post holder will need to have qualified teacher status, or nearing completion of teacher training provision, and be able to plan, develop and deliver interactive and engaging Science sessions - both in person and online - as part of our educational programme offer.
The rate of pay will be £41.27 per hour, excluding holiday pay. It is anticipated 1-2 hours of delivery for each Saturday class, and 8-10 hours per week for the residential. There is also the potential of further teaching hours to be delivered on-line. The hourly pay reflects the additional planning and marking required.
You will be required to undertake training prior to the start of the sessions (listed below) and will need to have a completed a clear enhanced DBS disclosure prior to starting the post.
