The above full-time post is available immediately on a permanent basis.  

The Engineering department, led by Professor Ion Sucala (www.exeter.ac.uk/engineering), currently has about one hundred academic staff across our Exeter (Streatham) and Cornwall (Penryn) campuses. Academics in Streatham have particular expertise in simulation, optimisation and machine learning in water systems engineering, computational analysis, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering and smart power grids, nano-engineering, vibration engineering, materials and manufacturing and biomedical engineering. Our work in Penryn is mainly focused on renewable energy engineering.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in Digital Design and Visualisation and Digital Analysis in Civil Engineering.

The post will include:

  1. Research, teaching and administration duties as a Senior Lecturer in Digital Design in Civil Engineering;
  2. Supporting the Engineering Department in extending the profile of this research area by attracting and supervising exceptional postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate research students, contributing towards the winning of significant research income, and by undertaking elements of the day-to-day running of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
  3. Collaborating with colleagues both within the Faculty and the University of Exeter as a whole in order to develop and support the groups research programmes and other cognate research programmes across the Faculty;
  4. Contributing to the general operation of the Faculty as a member of its academic team.

About you

For a Senior Lecturer post you will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Civil Engineering and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
  • A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
  • An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
  • Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact
  • A strong potential for research leadership
  • A track record in refereed publications and success in significant grant capture
  • Relationships with external organisations and funders/ and knowledge and experience of key sectors or business challenges
