We are proud that our RVNs are leading in pay, setting Edinburgh University a front runner in the veterinary field. We have created a new exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated cardiology nursing team at the Hospital for Small Animals. Our Cardiology Service offers a full-time specialist-led referral service on-site,and comprises European and RCVS recognised specialists in veterinary cardiology, and specialist cardiology nursing.

We have a full training program for all new team members where you will work alongside experienced staff while you learn the ropes.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a candidate who is well organised and is able to work as part of a team. Experience of working within any specialty of a referral practice would be advantageous, however, we welcome any enthusiastic registered nurses wishing to advance their career.

ou will actively contribute to the gold standard excellence of care we provide for our patients from admission through to discharge.  As well as aiding the investigation and management of small animals with cardiac-related disease, you will contribute to nurse-led cardiology clinics, directly interfacing with the public, and supporting pets undergoing balloon valvuloplasty, pacemaker implantation and PDA closure. You will also have the opportunity to train towards obtaining an internationally recognised specialist cardiology nursing qualification (VTS IM-Cardiology).

  • Additional shift cover opportunities available, accruing overtime for additional hours worked.
  • Our nurses cover one weekend shift in 4 weeks, paid as overtime or Time Off In Lieu, if preferred. No additional on-call or out-of-hours is required, however additional shift cover opportunities will be available, accruing paid overtime for additional hours worked.
  • Holiday entitlement 36 days + 4 days public holiday (pro rata)

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Being an RCVS registered veterinary nurse is essential
  • Excellent organisational and communications skills are essential 
  • Keen dedication to teaching the next generation of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses is a must.
