London, UK

Applications are invited for a 3-year Postdoctoral Scientist position in the Cell Cycle Control group at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) at Imperial College London (http://lms.mrc.ac.uk/).

The Cell Cycle Control Group is headed by Dr Alexis Barr in the Epigenetics section of the LMS: https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/cell-cycle-control/. The group’s interest is in understanding the control of cell cycle entry and exit - vital for proper development and tissue homeostasis. We have a particular interest in quiescence, a reversible state of cell cycle arrest where cells retain proliferative potential.

We are a friendly, collaborative team that combines quantitative, single-cell, time-lapse imaging with automated image analysis, molecular biology, gene-editing, proteomics, biochemistry, screening and modelling to investigate how information flows through the control networks regulating cell cycle entry and exit. For more information, see the lab website: https://www.barrlab.com

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and ambitious scientist with a PhD with a fascination for cell cycle control. Expertise in cell cycle, cellular quiescence, genome stability, cell signalling and/or quantitative image analysis would be an advantage. Your particular path is less important than your desire to learn and work on interesting problems. The successful candidate will also have the ability to develop and apply new concepts, have good attention to detail and a creative approach to problem solving, and additionally be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication.

Benefits

The post is an MRC Postdoctoral Scientist position providing training and development supporting post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field. We offer a highly attractive benefits package including competitive salary, excellent holiday entitlement and generous pension scheme.

How to apply

For full details of this post and to complete an online application, visit: https://mrc.tal.net/vx/lang-en-GB/appcentre-1/candidate/postings/2161 and upload your CV, names and contacts of two scientific references along with a cover letter stating why you are applying for this role (providing evidence against the requirements of the job as per the job description and person specification). Please quote reference number LMS 2003.

Closing date: 24 January 2023

* Additional allowances comprise a £1,000 lump sum Settlement Allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two, and £1,800 in the third year.

Final appointment will be subject to pre-employment screening.
