The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The Department of Health Services Research and Policy at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine seeks to appoint a Research Fellow responsible for conducting research with Prof Cécile Knai and Ms Laurence Blanchard for the CO-CREATE (Confronting Obesity: Co-creating policy with adolescents) consortium.
CO-CREATE is a €10 million, multi-centre project, aiming to halt the rise in adolescent obesity prevalence and to narrow inequalities by focusing on upstream factors and context change instead of on individual behaviour change. CO-CREATE has been running since 2018.
The successful applicant will be based in London, and tasked with supporting a critical review of the literature and policy documentation to fill the gaps between drivers of adolescent obesity, as perceived by young people, and the focus of current research and policy. Specifically, particularly neglected in policy and research appear to be mental issues, as well as online presence, as related to drivers of adolescent obesity. The successful applicant will also support the LSHTM team at wrapping up other CO-CREATE outputs, and will participate in peer-reviewed publications and other forms of evidence dissemination.
The post-holder will have a postgraduate (Masters or doctoral) degree in public health or closely-related field along with demonstrated experience in food and/or nutrition, in conducting reviews of the literature. An understanding of public health nutrition as relates to adolescents, and experience using EPPI-Reviewer (literature review management tool), are desirable. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 October 2023. The post is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and is available from 1 December 2022. The post may involve travel to European cities/regions.
The salary is on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 in the range of £41,829 to £42,681 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
