We would like to invite you to apply for a MRC Lab manager position at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) at Imperial College London (http://lms.mrc.ac.uk/).

Our lab has an interest in how the intestine controls our physiology and behaviour. Our team of 12-14 scientists makes use of fly and mouse models to shed mechanistic light on this process. We have discovered that the intestine of males and females is very different, and we are currently investigating the nature and significance of these sex differences.

We are looking for a lab manager who will manage our mouse colonies: their breeding, genotyping and associated paperwork. Our manager will also order lab reagents and oversee the smooth running of the lab including all aspects of health and safety, interacting closely with all lab members and support staff at the LMS. If you are enthusiastic, conscientious and would like a multidimensional job with opportunities to interact with a diverse group of people, this may be the job for you!

The Gut Signalling and Metabolism lab headed by Prof Irene Miguel-Aliaga provides a welcoming, diverse, multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment. We have recently moved to a beautiful new building with excellent in-house facilities and a brand-new animal house.

Keywords: mouse, Mus musculus, colony management, genotyping, Home Office, record keeping, health and safety.

This is a full-time, on-site position. Previous experience working with mice is desirable but not essential.

At the LMS we take the career development of support staff very seriously. We are a signatory to the Technician Commitment and have implemented other initiatives to address the particular career challenges faced by technical and scientific support staff.

We are keen, to provide opportunities to groups who are underrepresented in the scientific community. The LMS strives to be an organisation where a diverse mix of talented individuals want to join, stay and reach their full potential. We offer a competitive package of pay and benefits such as a generous pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement.

For full details of this post and to complete an online application, visit https://mrc.tal.net/vx/lang-en-GB/appcentre-1/candidate/postings/2168 and upload your CV, names and contacts of two scientific references along with a covering letter stating why you are applying for this role (providing evidence against the requirements of the job as per the job description and person specification). Please quote reference number LMS 2019.

Closing date: 2 January 2023
