A Lipidomics Technical Specialist post is available in the Cardiff Lipidomic Group, led by Prof Valerie O’Donnell, and supervised by Dr Victoria Tyrrell. Our research is focused on the discovery of new lipid mediators using state-of-the-art lipidomic mass spectrometry. We have partnered with several other UK based institutions to form a consortium for MetAbolic Phenotyping (MAP UK). The objective of the consortium is to promote UK leadership in the field of metabolic phenotyping through the development, optimisation, transfer, harmonisation, and validation of efficient and high-quality research methods and training, specifically tailored to application in molecular epidemiology, clinical medicine, and understanding disease mechanisms.
Your role as a Lipidomics Technical Specialist will be to undertake both assay development and training course provision responsibilities (training will take place both in Cardiff and also around the UK so will necessitate some travelling). You will be a team player, able to work unsupervised with training, and with substantial experience in analytical chemistry. You will be highly organized and self-motivated and able to write concise and informative laboratory reports, and be able to write and deliver training material. Full training will be provided in lipidomics and mass spectrometry.
Our group is multidisciplinary and includes computer scientists, biological scientists and clinicians. We are funded by the Medical Research Council, British Heart Foundation, European Research Council and Wellcome Trust. For further information, including recent publications, see our website:
