The UCL Department of Computer Science is the leading computer science research department in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluation, UCL Computer Science was ranked second in the UK for research power and first in England. It carries out research, undergraduate, and postgraduate teaching across all areas of theoretical and applied computer science. We are seeking a talented full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computer Vision and Physiological Computing to join our team in the Computer Science department, UCL Interaction Centre and GDIH - WHO Collaborating Centre for Assistive Technology at University College London
About the role
The role involves the development and innovation of computer vision algorithms and sensing tools that can be used in the home or ubiquitously and in retail settings for sustainable and satisfactory engagement with textile materials. Different imaging channels (eg. typical RGB and infrared thermal imaging fusion) will be explored to achieve state-of-the-art performance in textile material image semantic classification and segmentation and physiological computing tasks. In doing so, both supervised and self-supervised representation learning models will be explored.
About you
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Prof. Youngjun Cho and Prof. Nadia Berthouze on two new exciting inter-disciplinary (AI/computation and human-centred design, cognitive neuroscience, social science) projects for Circular Textiles Economy. This post is funded by the EPSRC/UKRI ICT theme, and the National Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Research programme for 17 months, with a possible extension.
