We are looking to appoint a research scientist to carry out research in machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop interpretable clinical decision support tools and novel methodologies. You will be joining a large dynamic interdisciplinary team of clinicians, bioinformaticians and machine learning experts and will be encouraged to interact widely with this group and with the other scientists across the wider university.
The post is based at the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital and in the Big Data Institute.
The post is for a fixed term (funded to 31 October 2024 in the first instance).
You will design and implement neural network methods for natural language processing and text mining tasks on ‘unstructured’ narrative text, and for structured data. This will involve liaising with researchers working in different fields and with different expertise (both locally in Oxford and remotely)
You will have a MSc or equivalent in computational sciences (Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics), together with relevant research experience. With strong expertise in programming languages (Python), machine learning frameworks, and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, Tensorflow), you will have a deep understanding of Natural Language Processing and text mining field. Ability to implement custom AI/ML solutions and experience with Natural Language Explanations would be desirable as would a PhD in a relevant subject.
