Full Professor of Materials Chemistry

Applications are invited for a Full Professor position in Materials Chemistry within the School of Chemistry, University College Dublin (UCD).

This is a permanent post arising from the Senior Academic Leadership Initiative (SALI) as set out in the Higher Education Authority (HEA)*.

The Recommenced Candidate will be an exceptional materials chemist with a proven track record, or demonstratable potential, in materials chemistry research, university-level teaching and academic administration. They will be expected to develop a thriving research group in Materials Chemistry, deliver excellent undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching and mentorship and actively provide leadership in the running of the School.

Furthermore, s/he will become a leading figure within Ireland’s Chemistry community, sustain an internationally important research team, and interact with other disciplinary areas within the university. The appointee will also be expected to take full advantage of large-scale national research funding opportunities (for example, through Science Foundation Ireland https://www.sfi.ie/about-us/), together with research funding streams available through the European Union and other international agencies.

The UCD School of Chemistry has a long-established track record in research and innovation and our 28 academic staff have expertise in the fields of Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Sustainable Chemistry, and Nanoscience. The School is located in buildings that were recently refurbished to state-of-the-art standards. We host approximately 100 PhD students and 20 postdoctoral researchers, and our research is focused on four main themes:

• Chemistry at the interface of Biology and Medicine
• Synthesis of Molecules
• Catalysis
• Functional Materials

95 Full Professor (2010) Salary Scale: €129,708 - €163,981 per annum.

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
