Director of Governance | TEC Partnership

TEC Partnership

The TEC Partnership seek an experienced Director of Governance to drive refreshed, effective and impactful governance practices aligned to our core mission.

About TEC Partnership

The TEC Partnership delivers outstanding education and training to over 20,000 learners and is one of England’s largest providers of further and higher education.

With a rich history of developing innovative training and education solutions for the community, the Partnership comprises of the Grimsby Institute, University Centre Grimsby, Scarborough TEC, East Riding College, Skegness TEC, Modal Training, National Employer Training (NET), The Academy Grimsby which offers an alternative educational route for gifted 14–16-year-olds and Career 6, the next generation of sixth-form focusing on career paths.

About the role

As Clerk to the Corporation and its sub-committees, our new Director of Governance will provide full and comprehensive secretariat and advisory support to our governing body and its members. You will be responsible for advising the Corporation and all other associated bodies on constitutional matters, duties, and powers within the current legislative framework. Our Director of Governance will be accountable to the board through the Chair and will work closely with them, other Governors and the CEO and her wider executive team.

Whilst it is essential that our Director of Governance works closely with our executive team, the postholder will be independent of that team and provide impartial advice and guidance to the board and the Chair. This is likely to include national policy briefings, statutory changes affecting our group, and counsel to ensure our decisions are clear and within the boundaries of our limitations.

Who we are looking for

In line with this desire for a supportive yet challenging board, and with our focus on governance development, our new Director of Governance must have experience of training and developing non-executive board members and enabling them to fully understand and carry out the public duties expected of them.

Whilst we would ideally like candidates to have experience of supporting a further education governing body, what is more important to us is your ability to quickly grasp the legislative requirements expected of our board and the regulatory environment in which we operate.

It is vital that you have a strong desire to work for a forward-thinking education and skills provider which enhances the life chances of thousands of people each year. Due to the size of our organisation and breadth of our provision, we have a relatively large governance structure. As such, we require our new Director of Governance to have experience of successfully supporting governance on such a scale.
