University of Cambridge - Department of Computer Science and Technology

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £27,929 to £42,155 p.a.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 20th December 2022
Closes: 3rd February 2023
Job Ref: NR34764

Department/Location: Department of Computer Science and Technology, West Cambridge

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 11 months.

A position is available to work on rendering for ultra-realistic 3D HDR displays with a starting date between March and June 2023. The project's aim is to develop new rendering techniques for future display technologies capable of reproducing realistic depth cues, accurate colour and high dynamic range. The successful candidate will work with traditional computer graphics, neural and image-based rendering methods to generate highly realistic content for our ultra-realistic display (https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/rainbow/projects/hdrmfs/). The goal is to create a pipeline that lets us capture a 3D scene with high colour and geometric accuracy, represent it efficiently and then render it in real time on our display. We are particularly interested in the reproduction of skin tones and specular materials.

Essential Requirements

Candidates should have a degree in computer science or a closely related discipline, with experience and interest in computer graphics. The candidates must have experience in real-time rendering using OpenGL. The position requires excellent programming skills.

Desirable Skills

It is desirable that a candidate has knowledge in one or more of the areas: image-based rendering, neural rendering (e.g. NeRF), differential rendering, 3D scanning and reconstruction and colour. The evidence of such experience should be ideally supported by publications.

This position can be filled by an appropriate candidate at a research assistant or research associate level, depending on relevant qualifications and experience. Appointment at a research associate level (postdoc) is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience). Where a PhD has yet to be awarded, an appointment will initially be made as a research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. We also invite candidates without a PhD degree but with relevant experience in real-time graphics.

Applicants should contact Dr Rafal Mantiuk (http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rkm38/) for further information.
